Outspring Acquires QuickMail From CE Software

Distinguished Email Client/Server Suite Finds New Home

Santa Rosa, CA. — January 1, 2004 — Outspring, a new software company, today announced it has completed the final arrangements to acquire the intellectual property and technology assets of the QuickMail division of CE Software Inc., a provider of communication and utility products based in Des Moines, Iowa. Outspring’s acquisition of CE Software’s technology will be the cornerstone of a new line of email and network products that will help customers by providing unique and innovative features. In addition to developing new solutions, Outspring will use the CE Software engineering expertise and technology to enhance the Macintosh® and Windows® platforms and extend support for third-party SPAM utility vendors so they can provide customers with increasingly secure and comprehensive levels of SPAM protection.

"We are pleased to announce the sale of QuickMail to Outspring," said John S. Kirk, president of CE Software. Our QuickMail customers deserve a strong development effort to ensure that they continue to have a powerful and robust e-mail system. We will work with Outspring to provide a smooth transition. We have turned over our work-in-process on the next version of QuickMail and will continue to assist Outspring with technical support during the transition. We believe this transfer to be in the best interest of our customers and the future of QuickMail."

Outspring is a new company started by Jeff Baudin of Micromat Incorporated, makers of the TechTool line of disk and system utilities (http://www.micromat.com). "I've been wanting do something in the email client/server market for quite some time.", said Baudin. "Since Micromat's primary focus is on what it does best, namely disk utilities, starting a new company seemed like the most logical step. When it came time to find an existing product to acquire, QuickMail was at the top of my list. QuickMail and CE Software have a long, rich history in this market and their technology and expertise will certainly help put us in the forefront of this particular sector." Baudin will remain President and CEO of Micromat as he takes the reigns of Outspring.

Outspring staff will be at the CE Software booth (#1342) at MacWorld Expo, San Francisco from January 6 to January 9.

Terms of the acquisition were not announced. Details of Outspring product plans, pricing and a timeline for delivery are not yet available. More information on QuickMail solutions and Outspring will soon be available at http://www.outspring.com.
